“Dune” Will Now Go To Cinemas First?

A new feature piece on the fallout of the AT&T and Discovery deal has revealed one not unexpected bit of information.

Deadline reports that according to their sources, Denis Villeneuve’s high-profile “Dune” film adaptation will NOT adhere to the day-and-date release pattern of established for the entire 2021 slate of Warner Bros. Pictures releases.

Instead the film, which will premiere in Venice in September, will be released exclusively in theaters October 1st before later finding its way to streaming service HBO Max at a later date (if it follows the new 45-day theatrical window then it will hit HBO Max around mid-late November).

The outlet claims it will be the only film on the 2021 slate to make this change, with other late 2021 releases like “King Richard” and “Cry Macho” still expected to go day-and-date.

Warner Bros distribution chief Jeff Goldstein however tells them at present there is “no change” to the release date and the plan is to still go forward with a simultaneous HBO Max release.
