Ms. Marvel Star Details Working With Captain Marvel 2’s Larson & Parris

EXCLUSIVE: Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani details her working relationship with her The Marvels co-stars, Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani details her working relationship with her The Marvels co-stars, Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris. After Moon Knight, Marvel Studios’ next Disney+ series will once again debut a brand new MCU character in Kamala Khan. Played by Vellani, the actor has some distinct similarities with her superhero role, including being a big fan of the Avengers and other heroes in the universe.

Set a couple of years after Avengers: Endgame, Ms. Marvel will debut Kamala to the MCU. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the show will also feature Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Laurel Marsden, Adaku Ononogbo, Laith Nakli, Travina Springer, and Aramis Knight in their respective roles. Beyond her own Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel is already set to make her big-screen appearance in Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels. The film, which is set to release in 2023, will see Khan teaming up with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. Plot details about the project are still scant at the moment, but Vellani is opening up about her experience working with her co-leads.

Speaking exclusively with Screen Rant, Vellani discusses her experience working with Larson and Parris. Admitting that it was intimidating to film with them in The Marvels, the actor shares that her co-stars took good care of her, and for that, she is extremely grateful. Read her quote below:

They’re like my older sisters. They’re very easy to work with, and they really do take care of me. They’re super protective over me, and I just am so appreciative of that, because I was super intimidated going into filming. I was the youngest, I was the newest actor, and I’m like, “I want to be able to provide what these guys need to do the scene with them. I don’t want to just not give them anything.”

I think it worked out really well, and it was honestly super fun filming with them. And it was really empowering just standing in super suits next to them.

For context, filming for the Marvel show started in November 2020 and ended in May 2021, while some additional Ms. Marvel filming took place in January 2022. Meanwhile, The Marvels‘ principal photography didn’t start until August 2021 and lasted until May 2022. This means that Vellani finished her Disney+ series before moving on to her new film, but despite that, it’s safe to assume there’s a big difference between the two projects. While she was one of the youngest on the casting sheet for Ms. Marvel, she was also the sole lead star in it. Meanwhile, she had to share the responsibility with Larson and Parris on The Marvels, which required an adjustment, but thankfully, it sounds like her co-stars were nothing but welcoming to her.

Marvel Studios has done a great job fostering positive working environments for its projects, and that’s partly because of its casting process. But, this is especially important for The Marvels, since it features three leading stars who make up a superhero unit. That doesn’t mean, however, that there’s not going to be any conflict between Carol Danvers, Kamala, and Monica, but at the end of the day, expect them to unite for a greater cause. In the meantime, fans can see Vellani make her MCU debut in Ms. Marvel.
