Russell Crowe wants to hold ’em as they do in Texas after agreeing to lead Poker Face, a Gary Fleder-directed thriller. Filming is scheduled to begin in Sydney, Australia, late next month, with Stephen M. Coates in charge of the script. I’m doing my best not to summon Lady Gaga at this moment, so let’s move onto the plot, shall we?
Written by Stephen M. Coates, Crowe plays Jake, a tech billionaire who gathers his childhood friends to his Miami estate for what turns into a high stakes game of poker. Those friends have a love-hate relationship with the host, a master game-player/planner, and he has concocted an elaborate scheme designed to bring a certain justice to all of them. However, Jake finds himself rethinking his strategy when his Miami mansion is overtaken by a dangerous home invader whose previous jobs have all ended in murder and arson.
Arclight Films will finance and produce the film, with Gary Hamilton, Addam Bramich, Ryan Hamilton, Jeanette Volturno, Jason Clark, and Keith Rodger producing. Crowe recently wrapped his contribution to Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, in which he’ll be playing the god Zeus. I wouldn’t bank on him being in the film for too long though, seeing as it also stars Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.
