Taylor Swift Joins Ensemble Cast for David O. Russell’s New Film

Taylor Swift Returns to Movies

Taylor Swift will be in director David O. Russell’s new film which features a star-studded ensemble cast.

The cast of David O. Russell’s upcoming movie (the title of which is being kept a secret) reads like a list of the Who’s Who in Contemporary Cinema: Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro, Zoe Saldana, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, and, we now learn, joining them is music sensation Taylor Swift.

When Taylor Swift starred in the 2019 film adaptation of Cats, which was based on the popular Broadway musical, Hollywood (and audiences) turned the other way. That film received horrible reviews and fared poorly at the box-office making just a paltry $27 million domestically which meant millions of fans of the long-running musical didn’t come out to see the movie. It was said that the costumes were, perhaps, the worst part of the movie and, apparently, audiences ran the other way in order to keep their distance from the embarrassment.

High-profile director O. Russell, nevertheless, has entrusted Swift with a role in his new picture which was made by New Regency. O. Russell is a renowned filmmaker who has had several big movies honored at past Oscar ceremonies. From Silver Linings Playbook to American Hustle, his name on a project is a constant stamp of quality. His last film, Joy, earned Jennifer Lawrence an Oscar nomination.

Swift appeared in 2010’s Garry Marshall-helmed box-office hit, Valentine’s Day, where she appeared with another Taylor-the hot male star from the Twilight pictures, Taylor Lautner. These two stars playfully made fun of the fact that they were both “Taylors” in the end credits of the hit picture. Audiences enjoyed Swift’s work in this light-hearted comedy which was a box-office success.

Swift has consistently been a force to reckon with in the music world. She had the highest-selling album of the year with her brilliant Folklore which won album of the year at the last Grammy’s. That’s certainly no small feat.

Recently, James Corden (also of Cats) earned accolades for his performance in the hit Netflix movie, The Prom. I mention this because starring in a box-office flop doesn’t necessarily mean an actor cannot redeem his or her self shortly after a failed film. Swift may just follow in Corden’s footsteps and earn positive notices for her new performance. Time will tell.

People will be watching Swift’s latest performance to see if she can create a high-profile acting career for herself alongside her sizzling hot music career. This new film will be released by 20th Century Studios.
