DC comics is packed full of great villains. Batman alone has a plethora of interesting villains with great backstories and character development. James Gunn had them all in the palms of his hands for The Suicide Squad.
Gunn has now revealed the characters that he considered for the movie, but ultimately didn’t make the final cut.
The Suicide Squad will be Gunn’s first time working within the DCEU. He’s already made his mark in the MCU with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Gunn working with Warner Bros and DC to direct The Suicide Squad came after his short departure from Marvel. Although he has returned for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
When Gunn was brought on board, he was given free creative control to do whatever he wanted. They allowed for him to bring back basically anyone from the first Suicide Squad movie, most notably Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Others are new to the franchise and will be making their live action movie debut as well. This includes John Cena’s Peacemaker, Peter Capaldi as the Thinker and David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man.
Others included are Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. The movie is packed with characters.
There was a host of other characters that he wanted to bring in for the movie, but they didn’t fit the screenplay that he crafted. On Twitter, Gunn revealed many of the other villains that he thought of adding to the movie, before declining to do so.
“When I first considered taking the job of writing The Suicide Squad I kept a file folder of characters I was considering. Here are just a few (of many) that didn’t make the cut (for now!),”
He continues in his Twitter thread:
“Every character in The Suicide Squad was chosen for a purpose, great or small, and although I love many of these other characters, they didn’t serve the story quite as well. I am of course open to using them in the future. And there are many more wonderful @DCComics characters where these came from. See The Suicide Squad in theaters next month!”
