Watch Late Actress Doreen Montalvo See Her Cameo in ‘In The Heights’ Movie (Video)

In the Heights creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has shared a video of the touching moment when late actress Doreen Montalvo got to watch her cameo in the new movie.

The movie was supposed to be released in theaters last year and before the pandemic started, a bunch of original Broadway cast members got to watch some of the film during a vocal session.

Doreen was joined by fellow Broadway stars Mandy Gonzalez, Janet Decal, Karen Olivo, Krysta Rodriguez, and more to watch the scene.

“Forever grateful that Doreen Montalvo got to see her moment, cheered on & surrounded by the women who loved her so much. Grateful to @LacketyLac for having the presence of mind to capture it. Miss you Doreen,” Lin wrote on Twitter.

Doreen was part of the In the Heights original cast and she reprised her special moment in the song “Breathe” for the film version. She’s the one who sings the line, “Mira, Nina,” in the song.

Lin recently told Cinema Blend, “The late, great Doreen Montalvo, who was in every version of In the Heights from 2002 to this movie sings her part in ‘Breathe.’ The part where she sings ‘Mira, Nina.’ That’s Doreen, and she passed away last year. And I’m so glad that we were able to immortalize her performance in the movie.”

Doreen died in October 2020 after suffering a stroke.

Make sure to see the touching moment in the film’s end credits where Doreen gets a special tribute.
